Standard First Aid
Tonya got her first pony at age nine and she
broke her first horse, at age twelve. She went on to compete
up to Preliminary Level in Eventing and competed with him in
two BC Summer Games in Dressage. More recently, Tonya has been
concentrating on the Hunter/Jumper discipline. She has shown
up to the 4' height in Jumpers and is looking forward
to competing at a higher level once her current mount, Dante,
is ready for it.
After high school, Tonya moved to Victoria,
British Columbia to attend UVIC. During the summer she began
coaching to help pay for her education and by the time that
she achieved a degree in English and Psychology, she was coaching
and training professionally. Tonya’s original intention
was to become a high school teacher and councilor but by graduation
she had realized that coaching would be her true calling and
was the field in which she had the most to offer.
Over the years Tonya has coached students and
trained horses of many different types and is experienced in
dealing with almost any equestrian related situation. As one
never stops learning about horses, she continues to train regularly
with her own coach.
Tonya married in 2000 and lives today with
her husband and daughter at a leased equestrian facility in
Victoria, British Columbia. This is where she does the majority
of her teaching and training from.
